Can you use a TENS machine if being continuously monitored?

Hi there, title says it all really. I am going to try for a VBAC hopefully and am starting to think it is time to think about labour (I have been putting it off as didn't really believe till now that it might happen). I was going to hire one last time but my DD arrived before I had even got round to organising it.

Thanks for the speedy replies! Do you think it really works? I need a plan to avoid pethedine as I'm scared of saying something crazy and being out of it. I had a GA last time so want to be as with it as possible this time.

I was addicted to my TENS machine - got thoroughly panicked when I had to take it off to have a bath!

I really do think it helped and worked. I used that, a good breathing technique and gas and air.

I actually had the TENS machine on for 3 days, and it certainly helped me through the 'oh crap it hurts, but the hopsital aren't wanting me to go in yet' period where my contractions were very painful but irregular. (false labour, huh!)

I was the same as littleweed10, i had mine on for three consecutive days and hated having to take it off. it does work but you need to start using it early on in teh labour pains.

during those three days i was undergoing various attempts at inducing my baby who refused to be born! so after each pessary and every hour thereafter i would be monitored for half an hour. i would just tell the midwife i had a TENS machine on, and they would always say that's fine but if it affects the reading you'll have to turn it off, but it never did affect the reading. so you should be fine.
