Anyone been told that they can't have a VBAC?

Not pregnant at the moment, and no immediate plans but...

I had an emergency C-Section with DS1. Lost lots of blood and was pretty out of it immediately post-section, but distinctly remember the doctor in charge saying that I would have to have a C-Section next time round as they had had to do a longer cut than normal. There is nothing in my notes about this and I now live overseas in a country where C-Sections are the norm, so I'm assuming any doctor here will simply say that I should have a C-Section next time round.

Has anyone else been told definitively that they must have a C-section next time round because of a longer than normal cut? Is there any point in trying to explore options for a VBAC?
