I am booked in for the above on Thursday when I will be 40+5 rang today to see if I could get one sooner as sooooooooooooooo fed up and was told no. Have to be 7 days overdue. Any ideas why or what I can do to persuade them?

Because they only work if your body is ready to go into labour anyway. The later it's done the more likely it is to work.

Not much point trying to get one sooner IMO - I had three sweeps, the final one at 16 days overdue. It was this one that finally kicked things off for me. DS born 18 days overdue!

I'm not saying you'll go that far over, and I remember that fed up feeling all too well. Hopefully things will start soon.

I had one with DS2 at 40+10. Midwife said looking at my cervix she would be surprised if I hadn't had baby by the morning. He arrived three hours later.

thanks everyone, it is nice to hear some positive stories about them working, as some things I have read just say very uncomnfortable and poiintless. Postive mental attitude for tomorrow morning!! I need to meet this baby!!

Mine WAS uncomfortable and pointless though - I had S&S at 40+7, DD was born at 40+16 after induction, so don't EXPECT it to work Wink

I had a sweep at 36 weeks (1st baby) was 1cm dilated and had dd the next day, think I must be the exception, I did have my waters broken etc but was contracting before I got to hospital.
Rouso I suppose it greatly depends on how you are being induced? If the midwives etc want it to go quickly then they can, but you often hear of people being induced and still no baby after 4 days, it took me 10 hours.

i had 4 sweeps with my dc3...each one loosened the mucus plug a bit more, but they didn't work.... he was born at 40+15 after a very quick comedy style shag! Grin

good luck!

I had one with DD1 at 40 weeks didnt work but had one 40+7 weeks and had a little girl the next day (took about 18 hours before contractions for me) but had mucus plug out within about 1 hour.
