At 39+2 today i have seen a consultant this morning who agreed that due to severe SPD and Sciatica which has rendered me immobile without crutches and in constant pain, i'm being admitted this friday for induction. They couldn't do a sweep, the cervix is soft but his head isn't engaged. I've been told i'm a high risk for caesarean.

I'm expecting this to be most unpleasant from start to finish, but can anyone give me any nice induction stories rather than the nightmares i keep reading about???? This is my first baby...

I hope all goes well for you Smile

Sending positive vibes

It's looking likely I'm to be induced as well (tomorrow, prob)

No experience of induction though - other 2 were SVDs

Oh good luck to you as well then!!

Doesn't look like anyone has any good induction stories for us... oh dear...

I have just had my 2nd DC 10 days ago. I was very disappointed to get to term+14 but I had had enough of being pregnant and uncomfortable so I agreed to induction. I had already had 2 sweeps and a show but nothing was really happening. When I went for induction I was already 3.5cm dilated and so my waters were broken-skipping the gel or pessary stage. My DS had not engaged and so he was pushed down into my pelvis while this was done. Labour was 1hr 15 minutes. I was far less sore and bruised than I was following the birth of my DD, which had been a long labour and pool birth. Within 2 hours I was showered, dressed and waiting to go home. I had absolutely dreaded being induced as I was really worried about intervention and I had read mostly negative accounts of other people who had been induced. I can only say that on the whole it was a very positive experience. Good luck.xx

I was induced with dd2 and found the whole process very positive. I was given a gel pack at 4am, had a bit of a sleep, read for a bit, walked about, listened to i-pod etc. Given another gel pack at about 11ish, again walked about, had about a million baths!!
Labour began at 4pm, dd2 arrived at 6.45pm, was mobile the whole time, had baby kneeling at side of bed. No interventions needed for delivery, waters broke themselves, whole thing over in the blink of an eye. Much much easier than birth of dd1 after an very long and painful 11 hour labour, way too many horror stories about induction. Good luck

I've had 3 inductions.

The first one resulted in a long labour but it was well-managed by the staff and not at all traumatic.

The second was even easier. I was taken down to the delivery room once things had started, had an epidural and actually slept through a lot of the labour. Blush

The third induction was straightforward in itself. My only problem was with one particular MW but the others were lovely people.

Good luck to you both, Palace39 and Notnowbernard. :)

I was induced a couple of weeks ago as I was 40+12; I was pretty terrified beforehand but it all turned out fine.

I had the gel at 9am, then was sent home to see if anything would happen. Contractions started at 1pm and I returned to hospital for potential second dose, but they decided it wasn't necessary and gave me another sweep instead.

No more intervention was needed as my waters broke at about 7pm and DD2 came out straight after.

All in all quite a good experience - just a bit of gas and air, and no stitches.

Good luck and I hope it goes well.

I actually feel genuine relief that not all inductions are bad- thank you ladies!!

I'm half excited about going in tomorrow, i just want to get there and get started. The end is in sight... notnowbernard i hope yours goes well today.. thinking of you. xx
