clot in uterus 4 weeks after birth

Hello everyone
thank you to everyone who answered my previous thread about uterine infections. I had a scan today that showed no placenta/membranes (phew), but did show quite alarge clot in the uterus. It's not attached to anythihg, but obviously it needs to come out!

The ultrasound lady said it would probably pass out on its own after some hefty period type pains. I have been getting some cramping, but am concerned that my cervix may be too closed, or that my uterus may not cramp enough to get it out.

Does anyone have any experience of having a clot like this and it passing naturally, or having a D & C?

I am on antibiotics in case it is infected, but obviously the thought of it being inside me festering away is somewhat alarming.

Any reassurance or hints on how to get it out gratefully received! Am thoroughly fed up of post birth complications now.

thanks again
haggis

Sorry didn't see your previous threads so this might be no help!

I had an ultrasound scan at 3 weeks post birth that showed fairly large clots that needed to be passed, I think they did within the next week or so on their own. My consultant wasn't worried about it for the same reason as you as I was on antibiotics for an infection anyway.

In total I bled for nearly 6 weeks. I was worried but it all sorted it's self out.

Hope that it all clears up on its own, you could always ask for a follow up scan if you're worried?

Thank you for your reassurance. I am so worried that I may go to the toilet one day and nearly pass out when the clot does with horror (!), however, I am more worried about having to go back into hospital for a D&C, so am hoping it does pass out naturally. It seems to be coming out in small bits (sorry if TMI), so maybe it will just break down itself...

Without being too graphic, I passed a cricket ball sized clot one week after DS. It rolled down the inside of my trouser onto the bathroom floor and I seariously thought it was another baby.
Thank god my mum is brave and a nurse and convinced me that it wasnt as DH was wailing like a girl.
Never mention that at antenatal classes!
