38 weeks with baby no.3, dd1 induced at term +10, dd2 induced at term +13. Really, really do not want to be induced this time, want to deliver in lovely little mlu 5 mins down the road. Been having nice strong bh's for the past few weeks, first time Ive had these. Midwife confirmed this morning that what I thought was the gradual loss of mucous plug is indeed that and that baby is 3/5's engaged. My body acutally seems to be doing something this time or am I deluding myself!? Someone come and tell me these are all encouraging signs or is her head just going to bounce right back out again leaving me to either accept induction or be wait it out and deliver the week dd's go back to school...

Could you book a homebirth?
Or go and have a talk with the head of the MLU. Get them to agree to you having your baby there past 42 weeks, it can be done.
A friend of mine here had her baby in an MLU at 43 weeks.
Its up to you to state what you want to happen (and to show you are aware of, understand and accept the small risks attached).
Some women do just seem to have a longer gestation period, and thats normal and natural for them, not pathalogical.

PS There's always hope, this one might come earlier!

Best friend had two inductions, and went into labour naturally and had a fab birth with the third, it can happen! All the best!

Thanks for the links Selina, interesting reading and I have thought in the past that Im a longer "cooker"! The problem with requesting delivering at the mlu after 42 weeks is this - 5 years ago (between dd1 and dd2) I had a "brain event", had several diagnosis - tumour, minor stroke but eventually had it put down to a build up of calcium on my brain caused by an infection. Basically I lost my left side. Luckily I recovered really quickly and really well and went on to have dd2 with no issues (except the need for induction). Its been brought up again and the consultant whos got involved doesnt want me to go over 42 weeks and doesnt want me to deliver at all at the mlu. Im lucky that I have a supportive midwife who is willing to deliver me there but I know I wont be able to push for longer than term+14. Perhaps I should just fix the induction date in my head and if I go into labour before that then itll be a welcome bonus to end my last pregnancy..send me some labour vibes!
