Hi all, I had an emergency c-ection 5 weeks ago and was doing well after recovering from wound infection but this morning my tummy really hurts but not on the wound. Anyone else suffer or any guide as to how long til I can get back to normal????

I really was starting to feel normal and now it hurts again and my mum is away on holiday and just feeling a bit isolated - thought i'd reach out on here!

Waiting for my MIL to get up so hopefully she'll come over for a bit and help but DH has had to go to work and i'm left home with a crying baby and a mad dog and no help

Really wish that healing was quicker!

I'd be getting the wound looked at - if it was starting to feel normal, and is now feeling worse again, maybe the infection/another infection has flared up - no experience of this myself, but my cousin recently had this - and the Dr told her improvement should really be in one direction only - worsening should be checked. Though "doing too much" may be the cause, best check for new infection to be safe?

hi there,
just saw this and can empathise..same happened to me and it took a while for the centre of the wound to finally heal due to too much movement on my part i think 8 weeks and various iodine dressings from nurse! My advice is to try and pop to see you HV or docter's practice nurse asap, just for her to check there is no swelling/infection under the wound (ie inside) which could require treatment, dont just ignore it.
take care

Many thanks - i've got to pop in to weight clinic on Thursday to have bubs weighed so I'll see how it is morra and if getting worse or improving. Then i'll make appointment if getting worse morra but think it is muscles as hurts more when I move in certain directions or if I push on it rather than all the time which my infection did more.

It isn't the wound or scar that is hurting though it is kinda above and to one side more. Maybe the muscles underneath knitting together?! Hoping anyway!

boardnbikemama are you healed now? How long did it take for you to feel better?

Anyone else had the same thing?

Yes, me! I had an emergency cs 4 weeks ago today. Similarly to yourself, I felt marvellous for the first week and a half after the op - stopped taking pain killers and everything. However, I am now getting random pains and aches in abdomen. I may have a uterine infection, and am on antibiotics for that, but i also think some of it is muscles healing and bruising going down etc. it is major surgery, so i'm not too concerned. think if it was internsl infection etc, i would be showing more signs ie high temp, chills etc. i'm glad you posted as i thought it was just me!

bluesnowfalcon · 03/08/2010 18:55

Haggisfish I don't have any other signs either which is why I'm assuming it is muscles! Hope for both our sakes it is muscles rather than anything more sinister Especially as I've been lifting buggy and car seat, cleaning the house, cooking meals and going out loads - guess I was pushing my luck

Hope your bubs was ok after your cs? I got to the point where I was told cs or your baby might not survive - very scary especially after 19 hours of labour and every drug going - they even had me on induction drip even though I went in to labour at home cos I was 9cm for 4.5 hours and apparently that isn't normal!

Hope you had a slightly less traumatic experience with less build up prior to your cs

Let me know how you progress - hopefully we'll both be feeling better soon and be able to return to normal life

hi there!! i had emergency section 3 weeks ago and i felt awful the first 10 days now feeling much better but still getting pains...i told my midwife and she said its the muscles etc that have been stretched and that it will hurt coz it is major surgery (which i keep forgetting!!) hope you feel better soon, it is so shit when u cant do anything isnt it xx

harverina · 03/08/2010 20:38

Hi! I had an emergency c-section 17 weeks ago and I still have an open c-section wound. It is getting packed and dressed every day and I am totally and utterly fed up with it. Lost all my baby weight after about 2 weeks and now gaining again as I cannot excerise and cannot stop eating

Take it easy is my advice!

MrsDmamee · 03/08/2010 21:05

thanks for starting the thread bluenowfalcon

had em-cs 5 weeks ago(my 2nd em-cs) and recovery is very slow, had infection in wound.
Got antib's from gp but still feel a bit tender and sore.

cleaned house too over weekend mopping floors(stupid i know!) and felt id overdone it and pulled or strained wound/muscle area.

seeing gp this week for 6 week check so i'll voice my concerns and hope cs wound is healing right.

scrab806ble · 03/08/2010 21:11

Takes a while! Get it checked, but my scar still hurts at times, as do my tummy muscles. Two c's 5 and 7 years ago.
For initial healing, arnica tablets work well.
And really, less physical stuff for a while does help to heal!

bluesnowfalcon · 04/08/2010 07:42

Thanks all - think it is a bit easier today as I didn't flinch getting out of bed!

I've got to make apponitment for 6 week check but thought I'd do it morra when i'm at the surgery for weight clinic for bubs

harverina can't believe your wound is still open. Mine split in week 2/3 but has healed now but did get put on high strength antibiotics as had infection. Really hope it won't be much longer for you it sucks that you are still suffering

scrab806ble think that might be the key but still hard not to just do thnigs as it is easier to do it than explain to someone else what you want!
