Gave birth yesterday - varicose veins now throbbing

I had my little boy in the early hours of yesterday morning, and was discharged from hospital in the afternoon. I have minor varicose veins in my thighs which started to come up in my lower legs during this pregnancy.

Yesterday before I left hospital I noticed that one of the ones, about a third of the way up my thigh, felt almost bruised. I got a midwife to check it out and she said it was fine - I was a bit worried about possible DVT but she said the signs were more swelling and redness which I didn't have. This morning I felt a pain in my lower leg which made it difficult to walk - have been limping although it does ease if I do walk normally - although there is nothing obvious to see from looking in terms of veins/bruising. A community midwife visited me today and I asked her about it too - she said DVTs normally appear in the calf area, and again to look for very obvious swelling.

Am I just being sleep deprived and anxious about this? Two medical professionals have reassured me but I'm still not convinced!

My labour did involve stirrups and about 4 midwives pushing against my legs as I had to get my baby out fast... perhaps it's just bruising from that?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

my legs were sore and achey from being in the stirrups and i have no veins,so its probably that,as you have no obvious swelling..

and congratulations on the birth of your little boy x
