I know this is going to sound very silly but it is on my mind and has been since i last gave birth nearly 3 yrs ago now

Anyway after i had given birth to my ds, about 2 hrs later when i was down on the ward i wanted to go to the toilet, so off i went on my own and had the longest wee ever..... i was sitting on the toilet and whilst weeing something fell out of me i was wondering if anyone has had this or what you think it could have been?? i was thinking maybe some of the placenta was left in and came out in my wee?

I am going to ask my midwife but i wont be seeing her till november now and i just want to get some idea of what it might have been as i am pregnant again and really worrying in case it was some of the placeta and i could have hemoraged (sp)

Hello

it was most probably a clot

this happended to me about two hours after birth, i was stnding by the bed and felt something coming out of my vagine, i pulled my pants down and there was a clot the size of an orange, the nurse took it away and weighed it, i then passed a smaller one.

Then i was fine.

BunnyBoo · 23/08/2005 18:18

Thanks, it was not pooh as it came from my vagina (sorry if TMI)

I am just really worried as my sister had a hemorage after her dd was born and nearly lost her life, she only had a 50/50 chance of living (but that was due to a shit doctor on call)

I will speak to the midwife is well but its good to know what it could have been as it did really scare me i thought my insides were falling out.

i had something like this too. i was on the loo on the ward and a massive clot came out (about the size of my fist! i pressed the red button and a nurse collected it and walked off with it

It sounds definitley like a clot, they would of measured if you gave it to them, in the uk if you lose over 500 mg of blood then they class it as a hemorage, in ither parts of Europe it is at least double that.
I have to say that I would like to discuss my loss of blood the next time i am pregnant but i am sure many women do bleed alot. my whole bed was red and they tested my iron levels after which were fine.

the reason i bled so much was my bladder was so full, next time i'll ask for a catheter, it sounds like you bladder was too full as well. maybe you should put on your birthplan about a catheter.

Thanks its great to know i am not the only one.
It was not a huge clot though as it just made a little plop noise when falling into the toilet and i actually felt it come out

There was no way i was fishing around in that toilet for it and i was to embarrassed at the time to tell anyone and to scared as it was about 3am in the morning and the ward i was on the staff were not plesant at all.

This time round though i will be asking more questiuons and i think you were right about the full bladder as i sat going for a wee for about 10 mins none stop, longest wee of my life i just wanted to be with my new baby but god i could not get off that toilet

3 days after DD was born I was in hospital (readmitted DD had jaundice) anyway I went to the toilet and a clot the size of a teaplate fell out of me along with a smaller one, I kept it and showed the midwife she said it was perfectly normal.

SoupDragon · 23/08/2005 18:47

Kind of slithering feeling? A clot gets my vote.

BunnyBoo · 23/08/2005 18:51

It just came out whilst i was doing a wee but it scared me at the time as it was my first baby and no one really prepares you for all the odd things that can happen
