Wythenshawe Vs Stepping Hill

Hello,

I am 24 weeks and am currently down to have my baby at Wythenshawe hospital. However, the care I have had so far hasn't been great. I have had three appointments and have felt like the midwives just want to get me out as soon as possible. I didn't have my blood pressure taken in my first 2 appointments and had to request to have it taken as the mw was leaving at the end of my third.

I just haven't felt very well looked after and this has made me consider moving hospitals. I actually live in Stockport but chose Wythenshawe as that is where I was born and my sister had her son there 4 months ago. She said it was OK but you were left on your own a lot before and after the birth.

Does anyone have any experience of either hospital? I really don't know what to do for the best!

I had both DC in Stepping Hill (DD:3 and DS12m). I thought the staff were very good. Overworked in the extreme (as in any hospital I'd say) but very caring. For any A/N appointments (I was usually at the Dr but went there a few times for consultant care) the nurses always took my blood pressure and tested wee then passed me on to the Midwife/consultant.
For the births they were all lovely and kind and professional (and believe me I was in for 10 days and then another 6 days of labour with my DD and then a CS so I had time to get to know them).
After the births they were very busy and the care was as necessary but kind and mostly quick - but I do like the place. I've no experience of Whythenshawe hospital but friends have had their babies there and had no problems.
I'd say if you are unhappy then ask to change. It is your choice, no big deal to them and then you can relax instead of worrying. Good luck.

Was supposed to have DS in Wyth but got tranferred to Oldham as neonatal unit was full (this was 3 years ago and DS prem). Was only there for the scans.

This time opted for Stepping Hill (where DS was xferred to after being born, as they had space). As previous poster said, all hospital staff are totally overworked/understaffed but so far in my antenatal care at SH, I have been happy (currently overdue with DC2). Even teh sonographers were much better imo - stopped scans to give detailed info, etc where at Wyth, they just did it quickly and said all was ok.

Had consultant care this time at SH due to previous prem birth and they always took blood pressure/urine, etc.

Will let you know how the actual labouring/delivery goes (if I ever get there!)

Thanks. I think I'm going to change. Good luck wickedfairy!

Sorry to confuse my dh is a paramedic and he always rates wythenshawe above st marys and stepping hill. But reckons both are pretty good.
