Yes, just because he was late (40 + 12 days) and no complications.

He is 9 now.

Best of luck!

Yeap 40 + 9, because he seemed quite happy to stay put!
no complications

good luck!

Ditto. Induced at 41+3 with DS2 (because he was late, and they were a bit worried about the placenta)

No complications. Had a very fast 4 hour labour, and was home the same evening.

I can trump you there with 1 hr 50 mins!

I was induced at 40+10 with my DS (he's my first and only baby, so not second as in your case). I'm afraid there were complications, the induction/labour wasn't progressing very well and my DS started to get distressed so I was whipped to theatre for an emergency c section. Having said all that every went really well with the operation, my recovery was fast, my scarring is discrete and my 15 week old is absolutely gorgeous!
Best of luck!

Blimey meltedmarsbar, that was quick! Were you OK afterwards? You hear about people getting a bit shocky after having such fast labours.

In our county they won't offer a sweep intil 41 week and induction until 42 weeks. They want the baby to be propertly engaged for an induction as well, which obviously makes sense.

I think if it's not the first birth, the cervix is soft and a bit dilated and the baby's head is fully engaged, inductions tend to go smoothly.

I'm not being offered one so far even though I'm 41 weeks now and the baby is supposed to be 10lb+ already. On the other hand there is a higher risk of complications when 'forcing' a large baby out, so I just keep my fingers crossed that it'll come on its own or after no more interference than a sweep!

catftm - did I write in your thread about primrose oil?

Looks like it hasn't worked for me in spite of taking a 6 week course, large doses last two weeks.

On the other hand, my calendar due date is only tomorrow, it was my dating scan which placed me at 40 weeks a week ago and gave me unnecessary hope. I seem to remember being sceptical about my DD being moved forward since it placed conception in the week when DH was away!

So maybe I am just 40, not 41 week yet! Though I definitely look like I'm at least 50 weeks pregnant, I'm so tired of people asking me whether I'm sure it's not twins!(I have a photo in my profile)

catftm · 26/07/2010 15:38
