Waters gone, contractions every 5 mins...how long?

Hi all, ok I was booked in for a section tomorrow morning but at 4.30pm my waters went in style and now am having contractions which are handleable every 5 mins.

I've phoned the hospital and said I don't want an emergency section and might as well go with this now and they're happy with that.

So now I'm facing the unexpected...dd1 was 1hr 30mins after waters went, dd2 was c section...so anyone any ideas what's in store for me tonight?

Wow - congratulations!

i would say tonight you will have a baby

sapphireblue · 21/07/2010 17:54

i would say get thee to the hospital! good luck xx

Jenski · 21/07/2010 17:54

Good luck - I am sure you will manage brilliantly. Are you going into the hospital?

coventgarden · 21/07/2010 17:55

I don't think anyone can really say what will happen.

ds1 was an emergency section without going into labour.

dd was vbac after 24 hours from first contraction to birth.

ds2 was 12 hours from first contraction to birth.

Good luck .

oooh how exciting! baby obv decided it didn't want to be born by c-section lol

if your first was only 1hr 30 mins then I think i'd get off to the hospital just in case!?

good luck

Hmm, kinda tempted to see what happens and maybe have an unplanned home birth. Is that madness???

ArseHolio · 21/07/2010 17:59

I love a good labour thread

we'll talk you through it. you've already had 2, and we've all had some so it's virtyally like having a midwife with you

OgreRebel · 21/07/2010 18:04

Well after my waters went and contractions were every 5 minutes, it took about 28hrs.

My friend? 20 minutes. Somewhere inbetween the two I reckon.

duejuly2010 · 21/07/2010 18:05

Lol, you guys. Well every 4 mins now and am thinking hmm maybe I'm a little too whimpish to stay at home . Have a feeling he may be here pretty soon!

Your mad ! My waters went and in less than 10 mins had baby in arms. Totally unplanned just be careful I would go to hospital or make sure u have someone with you also get towels and blanket at the ready

thisisyesterday · 21/07/2010 18:06

my third was 45 mins from first contraction

OgreRebel · 21/07/2010 18:06

I can talk you through it. I will be channelling the midwife I had during my (failed) homebirth.

Oh that wicked, nasty, naughty pain. Oh it is a wicked, naughty and nasty thing. Bad pain, nasty pain.

How's your back passage dear?

soremummy · 21/07/2010 18:06

Unplanned home birth isnt for the faint hearted. Seriously you should get to hospital

any news today?

duejuly2010 · 22/07/2010 20:36

Hey guys, we're home . I got to the hospital at 7pm after dropping the kids at a friends, started having painful contractions every 3 mins and was 3cm dilated. I dilated to 6cm within 15 mins and Samuel Christopher was born at 8.16pm weighing 6lb 7oz.

We came home today at 4.30, 24hrs after my waters broke, a little stunned but very happy I didn't have the section planned for this morning.

Really glad I went in, the gas and air was great . Thanks for your helpful words yesterday, off to calm my hungry little man x x x
