Hi,

Well just got back from the hospital, Dr gave me my sweep which was pretty uncomfortable, had a bit of blood which i think is good sign. he said my cervix was soft, i was 2 and half cm dilated, my cervix was 1cm thick but soft and cervix anterior. I suppose i just wait now, anyone gone into labour after the same dilation after sweep etc? I've also been booked for induction next wednesday! So excited. Do you think i might go into labour soon? Due date tomorrow. I've just strated getting some pains but might actually be my imaginatin or wishful thinking!

Why did you have a sweep?

catftm · 21/07/2010 19:21

to try and avoid induction to move things along, i have spd and previous traumatic delivery and potential big baby.
Just had a bloody show so hopefully sign of things moving and labour coming soon.

Just realised I'm coming across as very nosey! To explain, my friend is just past her due date, has bad spd and a history of big babies. They won't sweep here until she's a week overdue. Her cons told her the other day you won't find anybody offering sweeps before due dates, which she accepted but was just wondering...

Good luck. Come back and let us know how you get on.

I am sorry for your previous traumatic delivery. Have you had any help with that?

catftm · 21/07/2010 20:48

i had a lot of consultations at the hospital and practically begged them not to let me go 2 weeks over again because i was in so pain hIm being induced at 41 weeks so the sweeps is to try and avoid the induction. Fingers crossed!

Good luck!

Ogre, my consultant said they would offer sweeps from 38 weeks to try and get labour going - although if I go overdue it will be a c-section! So must be down to different Health Authorities....

BigMommaOfAlmost4 · 21/07/2010 22:10

Don't want to get your hopes down, but I am 40 weeks (DC4) and have had two sweeps so far. 1st one I was 2cm, 2nd 3cms! I also had a large show a week ago. I have had intermittent cramping and intense BH for over a week also.

We are all different of course so you might be lucky but be prepared for the long haul. I have had consultants and midwives telling me for the last 2 weeks that 'they won't need to see me again because the baby is on it's way' and am now in a state of extreme pissedoffness .

BigMommaOfAlmost4 · 22/07/2010 13:31

Had my 3rd sweep now! Am becoming of the opinion that they don't work !

catftm · 22/07/2010 13:36

well had some proper contractions last night, went to bed to get rest but woke up this morning and no baby at end of bed!!! I wonder if that means it didnt work or something might start today or tonight? Due date today so fingers crosses!

Hopefully you will have had baby by now. But I just thought I would have my two penneth' worth!

I was 1 week over due with DD when I had a sweep and this was a thursday morning. That evening I started to get cramps and by Friday evening I was in full blown labour. I had DD 1.25am on Saturday morning.

Good Luck! x

Still no baby

I've given up trying to induce myself after my hour walk nearly killed me. When the baby comes it comes, might as well enjoy next week of sleep! Im being induced on wednesday so not long! (wish i would go naturally though) (hmm)

is it just me or did anyone else find the sweep to be very painful??

MrsGangly · 31/07/2010 09:56

It was uncomfortable but nothing that a few deep breaths couldn't cope with, but I wouldn't say it was very painful.

Jenny95 · 01/08/2010 00:01

ohh, well if i found that painful, im really not gonna cope am i

bluefootedpenguin · 03/08/2010 20:40

Jenny95 just wanted to say that depending how ripe your cervix is and its position, then having the sweep can be really painful. I had one with my first baby which I would describe as uncomfortable but I had a sweep at 41 weeks in my last pregnancy which made me cry followed by one 3 days later which was barely noticeable. I was induced by ARM on Sunday as I was 42 weeks and although Intense, it was very quick - 1hr 15 minutes and I had entonox and 1 shot of pethedene. Try not to be scared you will cope. Be positive, you will meet your baby soon and ask for as much pain relief as you think you need. With my first baby I had gas and air and the birthing pool and I would definitely recommend the pool. Good luck.x
