North Middlesex or Whittington

I was registered at UCLH, but I am planning on a homebirth and my husband and I don't live within their catchment area for that. The two nearest hospitals that provide homebirth care are North Middlesex and Whittington. I've looked on their websites and it all seems nice, but it would say that, wouldn't it? Does anyone know anything about either of these places? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I started off at North Middlesex and changed to Whittington at 18 weeks for various reasons. Anyway really, really happy with Whittington fab named midwife and am also planning homebirth (although am almost week overdue so getting worried). There is a dedicated homebirth team who meet in cafe in local park every Wednesday! Midwifes very pro homebirth and really supportive. They also have a fantastic birthing suite.

Have to say didn't investigate homebirth with North Mid but I was just unimpressed with them and generally felt not 'looked after'.

Had 1 DC at Whittington, MW are lovely. Had a recent mc post meeting MW again, they are all up for home births, in fact were pushing me to have one. If I ever get pregnant again I am going back, they are lovely.

Good luck

Thank you! That helps immensely. I thought Whittington looked pretty good, but it is nice to have it confirmed.

Just wanted to add that I also think the Whittington is fab. I had DD there 4.5 yrs ago, and am due to go in to have DS any day now! The midwife team is just great, and they are so supportive of the mother's choices - love their new Birth Centre too. I will heartily second the above recommendations!

The Whittington! Every day and twice on Sunday!

Thandeka · 16/07/2010 21:34

Nah not on a Sunday mars! You just don't get the service! Whittington is fab though, even though I had a completely shite time of it with a dd on nicu I still think they did an ok job and would prob go back mainly coz I get an elcs next time!

MarsLady · 16/07/2010 22:14

You do when I'm with you! lol

Thandeka · 17/07/2010 06:10

Hehe yannooo what that is my biggest regret not hiring you! I reckon there might have been a different outcome for dd had I done so! (nicu with oxygen starvation, possible brain damage diagnosis- but she seems fine now, issues like being left on own at times (dh with me) made me panic then couldn't cope with pain had epidural , wasn't assertive enough to limit top ups or demand not to be on backin stirrups, and funnily enough I couldn't push my 9.5lb baby up a hill,so they had to go in with forceps and let's not talk about the 4failed cannulas, the failed epidural, the failed ventouse which my consulatnt said should never have been tried and that could have saved time and dd's brain! Actually hang on why am I still recomending the whitt!!!
Nah it was ok really and they have given me my own pyschologist now [ grin]

btw mars incase you don't know who I am , I'm best pals with godmother to one of your daughters, a certain wonderful human being with a pear cider surname!
