Yes, to be honest. A) There are others there B) it's rare the entire baby comes shooting out in one push with no one expecting it C) even if that did happen, it's ATTACHED TO YOU and D) even if it weren't attached to you, what's going to happen? It's not going to disappear down the plughole.

The midwife will catch it, don't worry. Some people choose to catch their own baby, but if you're worried about it then the midwife will scoop him/her up.

The point of a water birth is low intervention so ideally you take the baby as it comes out. Although this isnt obligatory! Your MW will probably get you change position to ensure you catch it in the water. Your instinct will be to do this anyway.

When I had mine, my MW moved me from being on my front in frog position (arms up over side of pool, if you get me) to being in crouching position for exactly this reason (although I told her she must have been joking at the time!)

My DD came straight out and I got hold of her and held her first- this is a memory I really cherish now.

Good luck. WBs are the best!
