Qustodio- anyone use this to monitor website use in teens?
Stopppricrastinating · 26/04/2022 09:46
I am thinking of buying this - it’s £49.99 for 5 devices. A year. Not cheap, but potentially useful.
my kids are on the spectrum and so need a bit more attention in this direction.
ive been using the free trial but have come across some issues. Very innocent queries coming up as dangerous, eg) recipe look ups.
The content of a particular YouTube video doesn’t show. Would this show if I bought the subscription??
ive tried manually reviewing the phone use and it can take 30 minutes a day! That’s a lot of random minecraft videos…
What do others use to manage iPhone / iPad / kindle use?

We use it. You can white list sites quickly and easily from the parental control app on your phone, which helps with the random not allowing recipe sites issue. We also often need to allow homework sites.
On YouTube, it’s either on or off, there’s no way of filtering it with or without Qustodio (even YouTube kids is no guarantee and unpleasant stuff slips through). We managed this by not allowing YouTube on DC’s devices until 13 (the official age) and then essentially crossing our fingers and keeping lines of communications open. If you do find a way to oversee it, I’d love to know for my younger DC, as it is a real gap.

Thanks @Ululavit - it’s not just me then🙃.
Can I confirm - you cannot see what YouTube videos they’re watching from Qustodio?

In theory, yes. I just checked the parental control app and couldn’t, but it says I should able to see their YouTube search terms and click on the videos to watch them. But maybe it has to be done through the web interface. It’s a bit glitchy - but the best of a not great set of options, I think.
