Do 7 year olds go through a clingy phase

My 7.5year old is extra clingy ay the moment , he always wants to be with me but just recently it's more intense ( waiting in bathroom while I have a bath, sitting on my knee at grandparents).

I've asked if he's ok , can tell me anything but nothing other than normal school stuff.

All I can pinpoint is his dad was in hospital recently. Wondering if it's that or if 7 year olds have a clingy phase.

I don't think it's age development related, I would say it's down to personal circumstance for your boy. It could be that dad being in hospital has made him realise that the same thing could happen to you so some separation anxiety has begun to develop.
