Adhd diagnosed child and adhd

I have found out today that my 14YO son (diagnosed adhd 3 years ago, medicated for 2 years) has been having an every drink on a morning before school after he has had his medication.
My automatic thought was no, they aren’t good for you but he says they are helping him with concentration and there are significant improvements noted in school over the past few weeks which are consistent with this.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Firstly whether it is advisable and or whether there are any risks for children with adhd drinking energy drinks and secondly whether there are any risks related to the medication he takes which is methylphenidate.
I obviously don’t want him to have these but he is buying them himself. I don’t want to make a knee jerk reaction and stop him having access to money to buy them. I feel that I need to support him to make an informed decision.

I note that currently there are no laws to prevent sale to u16’s but that this is likely to come into effect.

My young adult dd regularly has a can of zero sugar energy drink. She’s unmediated for her ADHD and says that energy drinks help her concentrate and feel calm.
