Hi. Looking for any experience with a tween with suspected ADHD. My DD transitioned to high school in September. She attends a single sex Grammar, and overall she seems to be doing OK. My concern is that we raised in both year 5 and year 6 in primary that she may have ADHD. Primary dismissed, saying she wouldn’t meet enough of the criteria to warrant an assessment (she is bright and had friends, so my assumption was that she wasn’t causing any issues as such). She was known to be very loud and wacky (teachers’ perspective), ‘different’ from the other girls. I agree with this perspective, and want to stress I love my DD immensely, but it’s becoming more apparent to me that she’s struggling in some ways and I don’t know whether to again pursue a meeting with the school. She’s had lots of comments about her energy and loudness at the new school (mostly from peers). It’s pushed some children away. Observing with current friends (mostly friends’ kids, primary) she can be very domineering (unintentionally I think) and struggles with reciprocation. She senses something is amiss (very sensitive to rejection) and is starting to withdraw from friendships. Both of us parents are neurodivergent (but we’re both much more introverted). Appreciate tweens can take a while to settle in high school, but I want to to do what I can to help. Thanks for taking the time to read this :)
