dd was having CBT with CAMHS but hated it, she felt like the therapist was talking to a different person and couldn't engage with her at all. She was getting through the session then having a meltdown in the car, plus during meltdowns at home was screaming at me that I sounded like X (the therapist) so we have stopped for now.

I think part of the problem is her anxiety is so bad that it is hard for her to address any one aspect of it (so many issues I won't go into). A private clinical psychologist we had seen previously said she thought it was so bad that CBT would not work without medication, but CAMHS won't consider that as she has not engaged enough with therapy.

I have been reading about tryptophan supplements helping with anxiety and I wondered if anyone had any experience of a teen using them. Thanks

i don’t know anything about tryptophan sorry, but I would suggest taking your daughter to see a naturopath and trying something called ‘Settle the emotions’ herbal supplement. I was skeptical but found they helped immensely. The formula has been clinically studied in Japan, so it’s not a placebo. There are also other combinations they can suggest so there’s a few options.

@tam409 hi not sure supplement. For my dd I have cut out or minimize as much as possible both gluten, dairy and carbohydrate. Her moods and concentration seem to have improved. Can’t say for sure if it s correlation or causation. A lot of people find keto diet helpful. Make sure she has her blood tested to check her vitamins and minerals levels.
