We are going away and my youngest child will definitely notice the marks on eldest child's skin.
How do I explain it to an 8 year old? He will notice and will ask.

I have extensive self harm scars and I find young children are less intrigued by them than you would think and if they do ask a simple explanation is usually enough, they don’t usually need a detailed explanation.

I would say something like, ‘Sister was unwell and she hurt herself, but she’s feeling better now and isn’t hurting anymore.’ and leave it at that.
