Dd13 is on day 10 of 20mg, has anxiety related to just diagnosed asd. I know it's too early for improvements, but since yesterday she barely talks, shyts herself in her room, basically she us getting a bit worse. Did this happen to your teen?

As per the other thread, it is a known side effect to potentially get worse before feeling better. Please keep a strong eye out that she doesn't start thinking about or acting on self harm. Read the leaflet that comes with the meds. If in doubt contact your consultant. Hopefully she will start feeling better soon.

(My DD's consultant was very circumspect and got her to 20mg in 5mg increments rather than jumping straight in.)

Thankyou Teendivided. My dd started with 2 weeks on 10mg, with zero side effects, but yes, we will keep an eye on her. How long did it take for your teen to feel better?

I can't be certain without checking my notes, but I think within 1 month of being on 20mg we saw a small, though marked, improvement and an ability to engage with a very small amount of schoolwork.

After a while on 20 the consultant put her up to 40 which she stayed on for around 16 months, and this summer we have, under advice, tapered down from 40 to 20 again.

It must be so worrying for you. Take care.

Thankyou, yes it's a worrying time, but I am optimistic.
