Side effects after fluoxetine increased dose

Hi everyone
My DD17 was prescribed 10mg of fluoxetine 4 weeks ago, this week if was increased to 20mg. Since it was increased her mood has significantly dropped and she's back to self harming and talking about not wanting to be alive anymore.
Is this a side effect? Do we need to ride it out or do her meds need changing?
Any help appreciated

I think it is a know side effect, though DD luckily didn't have it.
Check the leaflet that comes with the meds. If in doubt go back to your consultant.
(Fluoxetine was a game changer for my DD - she's on 40mg, good luck. )

Yes, it's quite common as far as I know for these to be side effects from dose changes, including an increase.
I would keep a very close eye for the next few days at least and if any concern at all over safety contact doctor or go to A&E, usually it stabilises once the brain/body has gotten used to the new dosage.

I see this is an old thread. I just wondered if your dd got better, mine in a similar situation.

Hi
My dd decided to take herself off them in the end. She's 18 now and been off them a few months. She's still getting support and still struggles but not as bad as she was x
