I could do with talking to other parents who get the struggle of having a child with mental health so I thought a support thread would be a good idea for us parents to chat, rant and generally offload.
Our story
DD is 17 and last May we discovered she'd been self harming, having intrusive thoughts and had overdosed. Took her to the GP and was referred to CAMHS, we were put on a waiting list and were seen in the august due to repeated trips to a&e and overdose.
In September she was referred to the intensive support team at CAMHS and has been seeing a psychotherapist since then. She was repeatedly going missing, self harming and taking overdoses.
Today she has an assessment for medication, despite CAMHS telling me medication wouldn't help her they've now back tracked. She has no formal diagnosis. She's regularly awake all night and sleeping all day.
After dealing with this for months I saw my GP a few days ago and have been prescribed anti depressants.
I'm nervous for today incase they say she doesn't need medication and this nightmare continues.
On top of this I'm also dealing with my other teen who has suspected anorexia and is with the eating disorder clinic.
Sorry that was longer than I intended!

We have a support thread here if you want to join us. It’s not just for parents of DC with anxiety, there’s posters whose DC have a range of needs - eating disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, ND.

There’s also a thread on the Eating Disorders board for parents of teens with eating disorders.
