I have a 5 year old dd and she has suddenly developed separation anxiety for me. She cries in the line at school cries when i go to work when im not in eye shot. This has all started when they went back to school after xmas. She was really not well before xmas then fine then got a ear infection on antibiotics that then a uti so on a different antibiotics they didnt help then got another ear infection and uti so was on another for that. Had a break for a week then got covid. But her separation anxiety has just got bad she thinks something is going to happen to me and im not coming back. She is even taken herself off to bed to cry. I want to help but i don't know how to..

My daughter had similar age 6 and I took her to see a play therapist (long backstory but she's been through a massive amount of change in the last 2 years and I'm ECV to covid so her separation anxiety was mainly around her not wanting to leave me for fear of something happening to me).

There's a really good YouTube video that was recommended to me and it worked great for my Dd. She was almost 7 at the time so may be a bit old for your Dd but it really helped mine. Maybe watch it yourself first and see if you think it would help her.....

My DD still uses some of the techniques now if she has a wobble

There are a whole series of videos from that same lady and my Dd lives watching them. She's very in touch with her emotions though and enjoys things like that

Aww thank you for your reply. I will give them awatch 1st and then maybe sit with her and watch them. Its just so hard when she cries but as soon as i leave she is fine.

I'd recommend the book overcoming your child's fears and worries by Cathy Cresswell
