Hi all,

I have a family member who has just turned 16 years old who is struggling with his mental health - depression/anxiety etc.

He would like to get some professional help - possibly counselling or medication depending on what the doctor suggests.

However, for reasons I won't go into, he does not want his parents to know.

Is mental health services in the NHS for 16 year olds confidential?

Thanks x

Yes, it is, but they will always have the proviso that if there is a life threatening situation, they may want to inform parents. But they will discuss all this with the 16 year old beforehand.

Maybe look for a more adult orientated service as opposed to children's, i.e. in my locality IAPT offer CBT for anxiety and depression if you are aged 16 plus
