Private ADHD assessment recommendations

My son is 11, in year 6 at primary school. His behaviour is erratic and very worrying, and it's become increasingly obvious that he urgently needs a MH assessment, so that he can receive the assistance he requires. DS displays all symptom of ADD. I'm not sure about ADHD, as he does not suffer from hyperactivity, however he does demonstrate clear signs of impulsively. More worrying, DS also displays signs of oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. He were referred to CAHMS last year but they were useless. We are now back at CAHMS, but I'm conscious of the crucial time in DS's life (imminent start of secondary school) and would like to assess him privately. Can someone recommend private assessment centres in London? In particular those that are accepted by the NHS. I've heard about the NHS overflow, but I am unsure of where to find those centres. Anyone who has been in a similar situation and has any advice to share, please, please do. Thank you

Yes I can. Same situation as you and we've just had DS diagnosed with adhd and ASD to add to his already diagnosed dyslexia. This place is highly recommended by people in the know

Have you considered the possibility of PDA? If you think it might fit, the PDA Society has a list of private organisations that do assessments. Many would assess for ADHD as well.

DS was also assessed for ODD at the same time, but it's the combination of ASD and adhd that presents as oppositional

Thank you so much for your replies. I have never heard of PDA before but have read about it now and it does seem familiar.

Sleepthief, was the assessment provided by this institution accepted by the NHS? I will contact them tomorrow. Thank you foe your help.

The PDA Society website has helpful info about the difference between PDA and ODD. Hopefully an assessment would consider all the possibilities.

Yes. Most of the consultants also work for the NHS

That is another advantage of going private - they can and will assess for several conditions
