After nearly 5 years from our first GP appointment to express concerns about my daughter we have just received an ADHD diagnosis having recently started on Concerta.
After years of friendship issues, school underachievement, depression, anxiety, self harm and disordered eating we are finally starting to see some improvement .
I don't know what I want to say really other than express my sense of relief to people that will understand.
I know there is still a long journey ahead but actually having a plan, something concrete we can do makes a huge difference.
I would say the process is not easy, and I work in SEND education and we had the resources to access private healthcare. I don't know how hard it must be for someone without those advantages to get a diagnosis in a teen girl. How easy it would be to write a teen girl off when they exhibit their symptoms in the way my daughter and so many young girls do.
Anyway, that's the post. Thank you to anyone that managed to get to the end 😓
