Section 2 / no inpatient beds

Hi - (very) short version is that my teen is sectioned in a general hospital, awaiting an proper psychiatric bed. Section 2 is for 28 days and I don't think can be extended. Given they've already been waiting 3 weeks there's every possibility the section will expire before they've even been to a psychiatric hospital...
I'm concerned this means they've had no actual treatment, just the detention / keeping them physically safe. Does this mean they might just be released from here?! Struggling to find a straight answer! Thank you.

The section 2 won't be extended but it can be swapped to a section 3.

Likely they will place him/her on a section 3 as you usually have to go to the psych ward to be discharged from experience.

Ah ok that makes sense. My worry is that they may not then 'meet the bar' if it's a full refresh of the MHA assessment. I really feel they need a decent period of therapy not just booted back out if they claim to be no longer suicidal. It's an odd feeling hoping your kid comes across as poorly enough to still have help.. whilst also wishing they felt better.
