Hi. It’s is likely that CAMHS are not going to be able to help us and we have no way forward. My nearly 14 year old has Selective Mutism and social anxiety. We want to investigate possibility of medication e.g. Prozac, but can’t because CAMHS is the gatekeeper for this. I am aware that psychs are reluctant to prescribe for good reason, but my daughter is desperate to be herself and would like to see if she can practice speaking with slightly lowered anxiety.
We also want a full assessment of all her needs and some really good therapy - cbt delivered by someone very knowledgeable about my daughter’s condition.
I’ve mentioned psychiatrist as well as clinical psych as, as far as I know, it only a psychiatrist that can prescribe meds to children.
Many thanks for reading.

Sorry you've not had a reply yet... you can find therapists/pyscologist/cbt practitioner on the BACAP British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy website.

Why won't CAMHS support you?

I hope things are improving somewhat with your family x
