Self harm keloid scar removal

dd(16) has a number of very prominent and raised keloid scars from when she self harmed. We have tried scar away tape and the gel but they have not made any difference. Has anyone successfully reduced the appearance of keloid self harm scars?

No, but shamelessly placemarking

Nothing at home will help I think. You'd be better off taking her to see her GP.

Will the GP do anything though? Are treatments even available on the NHS?

There's only one way to find out. They might not do anything if she's still self harming though. If she's prone to this type of scar then they could happen again.

I have some keloid scars from my cystic acne. One on my back is about 2 inches by 1 inch, raised and was very dark pink/red. My gp referred me to a dermatologist who injected it, with a steroid I think. It was incredibly painful for a few hours, felt like it was burning inside, but then it eased off. Over the following weeks the scar became lighter to almost skin coloured, stopped itching and rather than being raised it became almost flat. I would definitely take her to your gp and ask about a referral.

Keloids are really, really hard to treat - of those removed about 85% will come back.
I have what was a large and livid keloid which was cracking and splitting. My GP precribed Haelen tape and kelocote gel, and then after 8 weeks injected it which took the colour and height down. Its still very much there though.

I'm afraid I'm 20 years on and mine are still raised. I'm hoping the menopause improves them a bit.
Bio oil and the strips didn't help a great deal either.
