DS 11 experiencing extreme mood swings and feeling unhappy

My DS is having severe anger management issues which have got worse in the last few months. He’ll flare over something relatively trivial (to us). School have called several times and have expressed their concern about him. He says he is very unhappy. He hasn’t made any friends at school, there is low level bullying which is being addressed. The school think he is depressed and have advised us to contact our GP.
He is a bright, confident boy, very eager to get to high school in September. He hasn’t really found his people in Primary and is desperate to make new friends. Home life is settled, he has a twin sister, dad is present but not very involved (different culture to me if relevant). Close family but none nearby. Still shares with his twin as we only have a 2 bed -trying to sort this but finances are a bit grim.
Any advice gratefully received.
