CBT through CAMHS?

Hi,

Have name changed as I'm going on about this irl to everyone and not getting anywhere fast.

Anyone's DC had or been offered CBT (or DBT) through CAMHS/ NHS?
If so what was it for? How did you get it?

My teen waited nearly a year on CAMHS waiting list for anxiety & depression help. The counselling is finishing soon and it hasn't been great. Can't afford private CBT.
Just wondering if anyone actually gets it through CAMHS?

(Am also trying to get them to answer this!)

Thanks x

It would depend on whether your CAMHS have CBT trained staff.
There's mixed views on whether CBT is effective.. I'd suggest you ask for a review/ reassessment at CAMHS to inform what intervention is needed next.when a parent pushes for a specific intervention it's not always the right one.

Our dd has had CBT with camhs, she waited about 15 months and has had 8 sessions mostly based around her anxiety and low confidence. She's had counselling in the meantime and this will continue once CBT finishes. The CBT has been ok but she didn't really "get" it at the beginning so they had to go back to basics, she's also found it quite boring but does say that she's learned one or two useful strategies. She was also offered dbt but refused as it's run as a group session and she really didn't want to be in a group. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to help.
