My daughter is 4 years old & a big animal lover. My husband is into hunting - bringing home dead things on his truck. He encourages her to go look at these things, she does out of interest. He's hanging dead ducks outside the house tonight which he'll butcher. I had her crying after he'd gone out saying how she wishes the animals could live forever & that she wishes he'd stop because it's wrong, he'll get so angry if I challenge him on it & all will be blamed on me that I'm encouraging her to feel this way (which I'm not) but I totally agree with her. I just leave him to it but he'll want her to go with him someday.
