Has anyone used and can recommend a child psychologist based in North London please? I would like someone to assess my 5 year old DS who is still having some vicious tantrums and displaying other anxiety-related behavioural problems. I'm not looking for am 'old school' behaviouralist who is focussed on controlling my DS's behaviour/ treat the symptoms but rather would like to understand what is happening to her from a more holistic point of view and work out how to respond as parents. Thanks so much.

Cognitive, cognitive behavioural or person centred may work for you. I am not sure where you can find someone that practices this.
Have you tried an ABC observation on her? This is a relatively common approach in CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and REBT (Rational emotive behaviour therapy). The idea is to look at the antecedents (activating events or triggers) that occur prior to the behaviour and then the consequence that follows. Sometimes the consequences may result in the child gaining attention or a desired consequence that is actually supporting the behaviour. Other times, identifying the antecedent can help you pin point why your child is struggling and take steps to reduce this

Watching this with interest as I was about to post the same thing myself. DS has always been sensitive and emotional. For the past two weeks he has been off the scale, the triggers are many and vary everyday so hard to gauge what the underlying issue is.

Hoping for some recommendations

I wonder if an occupational therapist would help? Can an occupational therapist visit the schools and offer advice?
My advice is to check the places out in person. Be careful with techniques such as applied behaviour analysis as many adults that have been through it now have post traumatic stress disorder.
If there is anything that makes you uncomfortable, leave.
Remember therapy can make people feel worse before better.
I work with children with autism on an educational setting and with the right support, they can settle and achieve.
Maybe check these places out if they wr close to you.
