Hello,
My youngest sister suffers with autism and as a result has been taking some medication for a few years to help her with the illness. She is currently on medikinet XL and is suffering from a lack of appetite which is a side affect of the medicine. She is 11 years old and the weight loss is a constant worry to our family. Has anyone had any experience with CBD oil to increase their child's appetite? I am also trying to find out if the CBD oil will effect her current medication. I appreciate this may not be a very common subject but any help/comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Medikinet XL is medication for ADHD, isn’t it? How do ADHD meds help autism?

Oh and autism isn’t an illness.

And what are her parents / carers doing about it?

Best ask the GP tbh.

As far as I know there is no medication for autism.
Medikinet is for ADHD. My son is diagnosed with both.
He was on medikinet now on equasym.
I think all meds for adhd affect appetite especially the methylthemadate as it is a stimulant.
We just feed up befor medication is given then loads of food when it wears off.
We also only medicate for school, so breaks at weekends and school hols.
Also every time we pass a maccies we buy a double cheeseburger!!!!

Autism, ASD, Asperger's Syndrome, and ADHD are often coexisting, so treatment for ADHD is often prescribed to autistic patients.

DS 3 is on medikinet XL - have you asked the paediatric dr or GP for nutrient shakes?
DS has been on them for nearly 3 yrs now so the side effects are gradually wearing off but these were a god send when he was first prescribed XL
Haven't tried the oil x

Thank you all for the comments, apologies for the error the medication is for her ADHD. I will edit the original post.
The nutrient shakes seem like a very healthy way to go. There just isn't much information out there regarding CBD so interesting to hear people's experiences.

so treatment for ADHD is often prescribed to autistic patients.

ADHD medication is only given to patients with ADHD. Some may also be autistic but that doesn’t mean they have medication for autism.

We have asd and adhd diagnosis.
Adhd was diagnosed first, we were given medication.
Asd diagnosis came later, there is no medication for this.
There are many conditions that come under the asd umbrella.
Sometimes these can be helped with meds for anxiety.
But these are not the same as adhd meds.

Hi I too have a daughter who was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 and only this year been given a confirmed diagnosis of ASD.

She has been on Medikinet XL now for just over 1 and 1/2 years. But since just before her 7th birthday in May Her ASD has stared to Become more predominant and she is experiencing extreme mood swings and aggression.

I have read a lot about the benefits of CBD oil for people who have ASD and Autism, but not so much use for helping both ADHD and ASD.

Has anybody Else or is anybody else trying CBD oil for the same conditions?

(I’m new so please be nice xx)
