My ds10 has been diagnosed with complex ptsd. He has a conversion/functional disorder whereby he has lost the use of his legs totally. This has a psychological basis and he needs physio and psych support.

He's just had a CAMHS assessment but I suspect he'll need longer term support than what the NHS can provide.

We're in the home counties. Have gone through psychologist doc directory, but obviously a recommendation or advice woukd be very much appreciated. We're in a nightmare.

What have CAMHS recommended in terms of treatment? Are they looking at providing EMDR?

I'm still chasing them from his assessment 9 days ago Angry. I've been advised by a good counsellor friend that he's too fragile for emdr at the moment, needs stabilising and opportunity to build up a relationship with a good therapist. Not convinced CAMHS are going to be able to provide what he needs in terms of long term support though. But where to start privately???

If you are willing or able to travel to north or central london I am able to recommend a couple of people. I would rather PM the names so PM me if interested.
Btw Child psychology / psychotherapy is very expensive.
I would advise don't burn your bridges with CAMHS - see what they come up with.

It might be worth contacting the Tavistock clinic in London. Best wishes to your son and all your family.

Hi Majestic please do pm me. I'm def not going to burn my bridges with CAMHS. But previous experience with my dd has been frustrating, support has just been too short.

And yes £££ is a factor...

Thanks tava yes I am wondering about requesting a tertiary referral to somewhere specialist. There's apparently a child trauma clinic at the Maudesley hospital in London too.
