Can anyone suggest how to find a consultant who specialises in autism in children and who will see patients privately. Is seems ridiculously hard.

Where are you Helen? We saw a private paed in Cheltenham a few years ago

helenmmathew · 19/09/2018 22:53

Based near Birmingham. Cheltenham maybe a bit far but I’d be interested to learn how you went about finding someone. Since I posted we’ve had a couple of possible leads from Autism West Midlands

Same day diagnosis.. That's ridiculous!

We were told by school and lea that they did not accept private diagnosis (dd was diagnosed in the USA where we used to live) we had to go through camhs for a nhs diagnosis for support. If the private dr also works for the nhs it's more likely to be accepted but I was told by camhs that there's private drs in the U.K. giving the diagnosis on demand because parents want to get extra support in school or especially exams

Same day diagnosis.. That's ridiculous!

Why?

You can't give a diagnosis in a day, there's do much to consider when thinking about autism, assessments, observation, school feedback. Child present very differently from first meeting esp if anxious.

Well our diagnosis was same-day as well but it’s a full day of assessments, it’s not Vision Express! Ours was down south - I’ll PM you OP. I’d suggest calling some or all of the recommended practices on your thread, explains where you live and asking if they had a colleague nearer to you they could recommend. It’s about £800.

domestichiefofstaff can you tell me who you saw? PM if you’d rather. We’re out of the UK but Cheltenham works well for a holiday and we need to get some updated reports.
