5 year old girl referred for possible adhd - anyone else?

Hi, my daughters school have called me in today and said they think my daughter may have adhd and if I had concerns etc. It was all a bit of a shock to me. I know my daughter lives in her own little world alot and is very easily distracted but I never thought it was adhd. As soon as I got home I googled it and it is describing my daughter.

I am now waiting for the next step.

Does anyone else have a daughter going through similar or has been diagnosed?

I have a four and seven year old both diagnosed with autism and adhd. It’s always a shock but you’ll be able to put strategies in place for your dd as will school.

How do you put a strategy in place to help a child concentrate and focus? Even a leaf falling from a tree will distract my daughter lol

Amber 12...i just noticed your thread right after writing my own! I was wondering how you're getting on? My DC goes into their own world and has to be physically preoccupied constantly. Teacher wants me to make appointment with child psychologist via gp.

Amberr12 the school should get an educational psychologist to do an assessment and involve the senco. Diagnosis usually takes a long time and it’s rare for anyone to start the process before 7yo for adhd.

My son is the same ages 6. School have put their own strategy in place and I now need to decide if I want to refer him.
Apparently it takes over 12 months for an appointment and much longer to diagnose. It’s not a huge problem at the moment as he’s keeping up with school work. It’s meant to get worse at high school (more pupils, large environment, need to be organised).
It’s obvious in activities as he cannot stand still.

My DCs school says they don't have the funding as that's why they've signposted me to my GP my DC is 5 and has always been this was but it's something that's not been grown out of. I don't know anyone who's been through this process and I'm basically in the dark with it all.

My sons school raised concerns a year ago when he was 6. We went to the GP in June, and were referred to a community paediatrician as part of CAMHS. We met her last week. They used assessments filled in by school and us for the diagnosis. To be honest I always knew there was a problem but was not sure what it was. As he's gotten older it's more apparent that it's adhd. Before 6, I think it would have been less clear for us whether or not he was also autistic. We have been offered medication of behavioural strategies don't work..

I will be starting our journey tomorrow, I'll make the appointment with the GP and take it from there. I don't know how I'd feel about medication, but as pp have noted the condition gets worst as they develop and the environment/expectations expand
