12yr old with anxiety
Ojoj1974 · 09/10/2017 21:00
My 12 yr old DD who has recently gone to boarding school says she has anxiety and the school are offering for her to see a counsellor.
DD had a bit of anxiety through yr 6 with exams and the uncertainty of which secondary school she would go to.
However, she is delighted to be at the school she's at, her choice etc.
I am chatting to her on the phone and via text and she seems and says she is fine.
What can I do?

Does she have a housemistress/guidance teacher or such like? I would ring that person up and talk through your concerns with them. I was very anxious at boarding school and just wanted to be looked after by someone. It's good there's a counsellor there but she needs a day to day person to be looking out for her.

The apprentice - I have had an email from her house mistress which is really reassuring. It looks like my DD is looking after everyone else and is probably emotionally and physically
Exhausted.
I have booked for her to see a cranionosteopth in the half term to release tension and if she wants to talk to someone the school will arrange that.
I think she just needs half term to be honest!

12 is still very young to be living away from home. I have a very confident, happy-go-lucky 12yo and she still needs lots of hugs from her mum at the end of the day. I know you said it's her choice but are you sure that she is ready to board?

Broken biscuit- she's been flexinand then weekly boarding since yr 3. Honestly she loves it. It is tough though as they are so busy
