Worrying thoughts

Where to start?

DD, 13, has suffered with anxiety for around 18 months. We've seen our GP, CAMHS, private psychiatrist, she's had counselling, CBT and we've had family therapy - the works basically and I thought she was getting better.

Tonight, in tears, she told me she'd been having intrusive thoughts about harming others and to a lesser degree herself.

She's no longer under CAMHS - do I need another referral or does she need more counselling? Naturally she's completely distraught and I'm out of my depth.

Go for another referral - obviously that will take some time - could you call them for some advice given you have seen them in the past? This will help you in getting to the most appropriate service quickest

Thank you, shall try and get her a GP appointment on Monday. Never thought to give CAMHS a call.

I really wish I could fix things for her.

Gosh, I bet you do and you can in a way by supporting her. If you can, speak with camhs before you see the gp then you can tell gp where you want referring to. If camhs think they are the best service ask how long you'll have to wait as this will give you an idea rather than waiting without knowing.
