Dd10 low self esteem and anxiety
sparkle789 · 07/02/2017 19:08
Dd has just turned 10. She has low self esteem and anxiety. The anxiety isn't all the time but she has times where it's really bad. But her self esteem is very low.
Dh and I have tried to help her but as we both have low self esteem too it's difficult to know how to.
Has anyone got any advice? I am terrified she is going to end up like I was as a child and teen and I'm desperate to help her.
Thanks

I've suffered with anxiety since a child, i'm now in my 30s.
Find her a lovely counsellor/therapist - preferably private. I'm sorry but the NHS are terrible for MH services. I have seen 8 different therapists, and the only 1 that made any difference (changed my life) was private. I dont want to dog at the NHS, but they just dont have the capacity. NHS offered me 30 minutes a fortnight. My private therapist was 2 hours a week.
I would also recommend seeing if there are any child yoga/meditation classes around? It made a huge difference to me.

Can your child's school get involved.
My dds school has access to the local child MH organisations.
I think secondary school tend to be more equipped with theses issues but it might be worth asking.
