New dx for our 11 year old
Anyone have any experience ?
How did you help your child?
Did medication help?
Any non medication options that were useful?

Thanks

That's very sad.

I've had wonderful results from a herbalist (not Chinese).

Acupuncture is definitely worth trying too.

Best wishes to you all.

Thx - will I investigate acupuncture

Watching with interest and empathy. I suspect older DC - similar age- has the same issue Sad

Bumping for us Sad

LadyCybilCrawley · 15/03/2015 13:49

Thank wtffgs
Sad that we can't find more people with experience of this
We are doing:

  1. Weekly one/one psycho therapy
  2. Weekly one/one physical therapy (although he resists this)
  3. Monthly family therapy so we know how to help as parents
  4. Team Meeting with school (therapist teachers parents) so teachers are aware and get therapist guidance in how best to manage and accommodate
  5. Starting medication next Monday
  6. Started meditation for bedtime

And now searching for acupuncture options ....

Hardest thing is I keep crying for him although not when he is around though thankfully .... Got to stop that though as not helpful

I don't have any direct experience with depression (though DD has anxiety which is often the other side of the coin).

From my experience of lurking, I think you'll get more traffic and some excellent advice if you post this in SN Children. Although depression isn't strictly SN as such, depression/anxiety is something that a lot of posters there have extensive experience in dealing with.

Good luck, it sounds like you have a fair amount of support in place which is a great start Smile

Thanks Blue - I did post on SN board with no success and was advised to post here Grin

I guess not many parents deal with depression in young children (thankfully)

Hi,
I've been looking at this subject quite a lot as my DC1 is having some issues and I'm not sure if it might be depression or possibly anxiety.

Can I ask what your most obvious symptoms were, if thats not too personal?

much appreciated
