My DS for 5 months now has made a 'urgh' sound , he does it constantly and only stops when he sleeps. The school has noticed it and said they have another child that does it who has torettes.
Could this be a bad habit he's developed or could it be torettes?

It sounds like a tic. I had a tic at this age...mine was "Zz" I used to do a short Z sound over and over again...even now, as I write I have the urge to do it!

The school shouldn't be bandying Tourettes around. Has DS got any other issues? Lots of kids this age get a little tic which then resolves with no intervention. Others need some help to get rid of them. Either way it's not a terrible thing usually but just a bit distracting and maybe embarrasing.

In my experience (2 dds), each hv had tics at this age. Dd1's has gone at 12 and dd2's (aged 8) has just begun.. lol. School should know better. Ask yr 3 teachers if it's something typical amongst this age group

Yes, sounds like a tic, they are apparently more common in boys than girls. My son used to make a noise kind of like 'Mm' every so often which was more than irritating to the point that I took him to the doctor as it was driving me mad. She said yes it was a tic and it went away after a while. Then we had the jaw clicking which also drove me up the wall. We havent had anymore for quite a while now!

DS2 also had a sniffing tic at roughly age 10/11. It was horrible & terribly annoying - but nothing serious or indicative of anything else whatsoever Smile.
