My 10 yr old dd has NLD which is very similar to Aspergers. She has just come to the end of six months of occupational therapy to help with sensory issues and motor skills difficulties which has been beneficial. Since Sept she has also been seeing a psychotherapist twice a week. She absolutely hates going to the psychotherapist and just thinking about going makes her cry. However, we can see improvements in her anger management, rudeness, willingness to try new things and her levels of sociability.
I feel incredibly guilty about making her go somewhere which makes her feel so miserable but it does seem to be working. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and whether you have views on how effective psychotherapy can be if the patient is totally opposed to the whole process?
Incidentally, when she is actually there she isn't totally uncooperative and the therapist says she engages with the process well.
