Book to help anxious 9yr old DD?

Hi. My beautiful 9 yr old DD is getting increasingly anxious and sad about various things, including her appearance. She was always a very happy-go-lucky child bu there has been quite a lot going on in the last 3 years, including separation and divorce, remarriage, having a step-sis and step-dad and so on. I am aware that all those things are potential factors for anxiety.

She is not miserable all the time by any means and when she is happy she seems her carefree self again. But when she is sad she is very sad and at times inconsolable, which distresses everyone.

DH and I are going for step-parenting counselling very soon, as we know there are things we could do with help on. But I wondered if, in the meantime, there are any good books for DD's age group that might help her with keeping things in proportion and/or addressing the worries she has over her appearance?

We do talk to her about things and try to reassure her about her anxieties, so I am not suggesting we abdicate that responsibility to a book, but she is a great reader and I thought there might be something that could complement what we are doing.

Thanks

your poor daughter - sending her a big hug - you sound like you are doing all you can Sparkly - sorry I don't know of any books but I have a 10 year old DD who is also very hard on herself sometimes without any reason so I understand your concerns. Sounds like they could both do with a mutual admiration society! Grin

Thanks Myth, I haven't been on MN over the weekend so only just seen the response. Yes, it is hard to think what else to do. Good luck with yours
