17 yr old assessment. How much input from parents.

Please can somebody advise me on how much input we as parents are expected/allowed to contribute during his initial assessment. Our son has never been happy content and school just wasn't for him. There are alot of issues I would like to bring to the assessors attention. My son was referred by his GP. to CAMHS where he did attend before a few years ago, but to no avail.
What can I ask for in terms of assessment as I have an idea of what his problem/ diagnosis is. I'm sorry if this sounds like a daft question but bearing in mind his age a diagnosis is well over due and I/we as a family are well past our wits end.

I see this was a week ago. Have you had your assessment yet?
I only have my own experience of CAHMS to go by, but the team wanted to speak to us altogether and to our son on his own.
