Is it ok to begin with 2 hens instead of 3?

I have a large coop but the run is 3 metres long and am concerned that whilst they will be able to free range when I am in the garden, most of the time they will be in the run.

Have you considered bantams if you're concerned about space? I bought a coop/run online but once I'd built it I didn't think it was big enough for the number of hens it was advertised for. So I bought three bantams instead.

Not really as am not a big fan of bantams, sorry!
