I think one my girls is sick.....

All 4 arrived yesterday. I noticed that the Coral Nick (first out into the pen yesterday, looked happy) sounded a bit funny. She didn't cluck like the others but made a short roostery sound.

This morning she was last out of the house (reluctant) and sounds like she is either coughing or sneezing. She isn't feeding, but she is pecking the ground a little.

I have put a clove of garlic in the water as suggested when reading the Omlet clinic posts.

Do hens get colds?

When choosing the hens the farmer put one back as she had a runny nose, so has this one got the same do you think?

Should I let them out into the garden so there is more distance between her in the others?

Hi sorky. I haven't experienced colds yet with my girls but yes, they do get colds.

Apparently citricidal is brilliant for treating them - can be bought from Omlet I think.

Not too sure on the isolation point. Are you registered with a vets - if so give them a call and I'm sure they'll advise you over the phone (or say whether you need to bring her in).

(prob worth speaking to your vets anyway, in case they think it's bacterial).

She seems to have picked up a bit today. I was at work, but Dh said she fed and pottered about, so I guess I'll see how she is tomorrow.

I changed the wood shavings for Aubiose this morning, I wonder if that's made the difference.

I'm going to let them out into the garden tomorrow.

The farmer forgot to clip their wings. Have you done this Saltyseadog?

Yep - dead easy. I find it best to do it as dusk when they're getting drowsy. Definitely a two person job :o
