Are leather changing bags too heavy?

I can't believe I am being sucked into spending £££ on a changing bag. But I am. So please, no abuse for being a fool with money to burn.

I fancy the idea of a bag which I would actually wear / be seen with were it not attached to a pushchair. Which for me means leather. But it seems when I am also spending £££ to get a lovely lightweight pram / pushchair perhaps it is daft to add the weight of a large leather bag to it, too? I'll admit that the Storksak Elizabeth is calling to me (damn you MN product reviews!)

Thoughts please.

If you've got the money, just buy one. You're worrying too much!

I really wanted a Lin & Leo leather changing bag (the red one with the cherry print lining) but was so skint around the time DD2 was born last year that I reused the £40 Mothercare jobbie I had for DD1 from 2009. It's a good bag in terms of fitting all of mine and DD2 (and some of DD1s) stuff in.

But ye Gods I'd still like a proper leather bag.

Just buy one :)

I might add that with the appropriate level of weight distribution (so, bag placed over the handlebars, say) the extra weight won't make a difference.

p.s. looked at the Lin and Leo bags, but they are entirely out of stock everywhere. Might try to preorder!!

I really wanted a leather one but found my last one very heavy even with nothing in it! This time round I bought a very convincing faux leather bag from Zara which is a great size and was just £17! It's very lightweight too.

The Elizabeth is lively and comfy to carry on your shoulder even when full. I say this as I can't hang z bag on my pram as we use a buggy board (big walkers). The Jamie is also lovely as is the Kate. Some of the other leather bags I looked at were too heavy for me to carry for the 30 mon walk we do six times a day (school and preschool) worth every penny and practical too if it rain though I shove I def the pram in a carrier bag if hammering it down!!

I olive my storksak Emily. Empty, I don't find it any heavier than my other large leather handbags, but when out with DS I clip it ontO the buggy with the storksak buggy clips. I've had mine 2 years and happily use it as a handbag when out and about without DS.

I was on the verge of ordering the Elizabeth but something was just holding me back.

So I popped off to TKmax and managed to pick up a beautiful leather bag, huge with a million different compartments and a small detachable inside bag. It was £225 down to £80.

Honestly have a good look around before you do buy.

IME you never need that much of a changing bag. You can actually leave the house with a couple of nappies and a few wipes in a freezer bag in the bottom of your handbag. Use baby blanket for changing mat. With oldest child we had a nappy bag that was usually filled with piles of useless crap we never used or sorted out. With each child we've started to carry less and less. Always have spare couple of nappies and wipes in the car for emergencies and a change of clothes and you're sorted. Sorry. Might help steer you away from spending £££ on a changing bag though.

I do not have a Lin and Leo but read somewhere that they are quite heavy - please do not quote me on this. I am so tempted to buy one because I love the look of them. In general leather bags can be quite heavy however the Kate from Storksak (not leather) is very light and the Babybeau changing bags are very light and the leather is very soft.

Do not get a Lin and Leo, their customer service is appalling! I had one of their leather changing bags and the zip broke after 9 months of use. When I contacted them, they were going to charge me £50 to repair it - total cheek and they were I'm no way apologetic or helpful.

Storksak and Il Tutto are much better brands!

Are you kidding? £50 to fix a bag you paid almost £200 for?
That is terrible. Storksak have a 6 month warranty and I have a Babybeau bag, the strap broke as it got caught on the door, they fixed it for free, they were really helpful too.

My lin and Leo broke and I found it heavy- I love my storksak Elizabeth tho! Def not too heavy - best change bag I've had- the pink lining ones are robust if not washable.......and lighter weight - have one also but find the print too much aftet a while and switch back to the storksak- will use the leather storksak as normal bag long after current dc out of nappies- had a year used loads and still looks gorge. Get one.
